evanescent |ˌevəˈnesənt
adjective chiefly poetic/literary
soon passing out of sight, memory, or existence; quickly fading or disappearing : a shimmering evanescent bubble.
Each piece in this body of work is derived from an archival found photograph, which has been scanned, digitally manipulated, and re-presented as an analog photographic print.  In each piece, the faces and exposed skin of the figures (all children) has been blurred, leaving the rest of the image unaffected. This work explores the elusive and ephemeral quality of memory, and the feelings of loss and uncertainty that can accompany the act of remembering childhood. It is about the way that photographic images have come to replace visual memory.  The blurring in the images reflects the way that our memories of people can seem just slightly out of reach.
(Where possible, images are titled with what was written on the original photo.)
