Each of these pieces is a Polaroid collage created from a photograph taken in the studio of a spare part, or parts, from a piece of IKEA furniture. The title of the body of work is a loose translation from Swedish of the company's original motto. Each work is titled with the name of the IKEA product, the part description, and how many times the image is magnified from life size.
This work is a continuation of my exploration/critique of the (in this case mass-produced) idea of the Modernist utopia and its infiltration into many aspects of our lives. These images also interrogate the indexicality of the photograph–since many of the Polaroids in these grids reproduce nothing but blank space, which could be a real three-dimensional space, or just an empty square.
